Windows users, it's time to get chatting!
OpenAI just dropped a preview version of ChatGPT, its popular AI chatbot, as a dedicated Windows app. Though it's still in its early stages, this move brings the power of ChatGPT directly to your desktop, with a few cool features and some upcoming upgrades to look forward to.
For now, only those with ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, or Edu accounts have access to this early version. OpenAI has promised a more polished and feature-rich app later this year, so if you're not in the loop yet, hang tight—it's coming.
So, what can this Windows version do? You can chat about files and photos, summarize documents, and even create images using OpenAI's DALL-E 3 generator. While this all sounds pretty great, there are some limits. For instance, the app doesn't support voice input yet (sorry, Advanced Voice Mode fans), and a few integrations with the GPT Store are still in the works. But if you're using Windows 10, you're good to go—it'll run on most machines without a hitch.
Just like its macOS counterpart, the ChatGPT app for Windows includes a "companion" window. That means you can keep the app running in a small side window while you work, making it easy to switch between tasks without losing your flow.
Even with its limitations, the app is shaping up to be a game-changer for AI on Windows. Keep an eye out for more updates later this year as OpenAI rolls out new features and improvements.
