Deezer, often playing second fiddle to streaming giants like Spotify and YouTube, is making waves with its latest feature. The music streaming service has announced the launch of "Playlist with AI," a new tool that lets users create custom playlists with just a text prompt. This fresh feature is currently available to a select number of Deezer's paying subscribers, who can now generate playlists tailored to their specific moods, activities, or favorite genres by simply typing in a description.

Unveiled on Monday, this feature positions Deezer alongside Spotify and Amazon Music, both of which have been testing similar AI-driven playlist generators with their users for a few months now. Even YouTube is reportedly experimenting with a prompt-based AI radio feature, highlighting the growing trend of AI integration in the music streaming space.

Initially, Deezer's "Playlist with AI" will be accessible to 5% of its paying users. These lucky subscribers can create new playlists by entering written prompts that detail various factors such as moods, genres, decades, and activities. Imagine asking Deezer to whip up an early 2000s pop-rock playlist for your workout or a feel-good 2010s mix for your study session. The possibilities are practically endless.

Alexandra Leloup, VP of Product at Deezer, expressed her excitement about the new feature in a press release: "We're excited to bring this AI-powered feature to Deezer users around the world. Whether you need the perfect soundtrack for a workout, a romantic evening, or a nostalgic trip down memory lane, our Playlist with AI feature will curate a new musical experience within a matter of seconds, and offers endless possibilities to easily discover new music."

Deezer has been leveraging AI to enhance its user experience for quite some time now. Its signature feature, Flow, uses AI to create personalized mixes based on users' moods and genres. Additionally, the app's Shazam-like Song Catcher feature employs AI to help users identify songs they hear but don't know the names of.

While Deezer hasn't provided a specific timeline for when the "Playlist with AI" feature will be more broadly available, the initial rollout is a promising step towards integrating AI more deeply into the user experience. For now, Deezer's paying subscribers can look forward to a new, smart way to curate their music and perhaps discover some hidden gems along the way.
