Are you tired of sifting through all the comments you get on your YouTube content?
Any YouTube creator knows the comments on a video are like a landmine. There's always a couple of idiots in the crowd, and usually more.
Well, now
YouTube is letting creators pause comments. The idea is to allow creators to keep the "cool" comments around while stopping not-so-flattering or friendly comments from clogging up your comment section. It's an excellent way to put up a wall for those pesky trolls.
YouTube recognizes the importance of giving creators more control when managing comments. To move toward this goal, the platform announced new comment controls for creators. After a bit of testing, YouTube is ready to roll it out to everybody.
In a nutshell, pausing lets current comments stay and doesn't allow the submission of new comments. You used to be able to disable comments from your channel or review each comment before allowing it.
The pause feature is different because it completely stops comments from being left. This means you won't need to worry about comments stacking up, wading through tons of negative comments, or worrying about viewers wondering when their comments will go live.
The platform has also touched up the comment settings. You now have three choices in the comment settings: On, Pause, and Off. There are additional options when comments are turned on, including "Basic," which holds comments that could be inappropriate until they are reviewed.
In addition to basic, there's "Strict," which highlights comments that should be reviewed first, and "Hold All," which lets creators review and approve (or deny) all comments.
Turning comments off does have a downside. If you stop annoying or rude comments, you're also stopping positive comments. The additional moderation controls, however, give you other ways to manage comments so you can reserve the pause option for extreme circumstances, like when you post something you know will open you up to negative comments.
So, go on and upload the controversial content without worrying about dealing with the negative comments from viewers who just don't get it.
