Besides becoming the next TikTok clone, Meta's engineers are working on a
new AI model that translates 200 languages.
And it will make technology and universal translation more accessible, showing that Meta actually has a good side after all.
Meta's researchers and engineers are calling this project the No Language Left Behind (NLLB), named after the AI model, NLLB-200.
Meta aims to create the most advanced machine learning translation model that covers the world's most spoken languages.
Compared to other translation tools, Meta's NLLB-200 was 44% accurate. And for harder-to-translate languages like African or Indian-based dialects, it was 70% more accurate.
This is cool and all, but here's where it gets more interesting.
Meta has opened this project to other developers, non-profits, and researchers. They're rewarding those who create amazing and highly useful projects with $200,000!
It's never too late to learn to code if you want in!
Over time, those projects will be used to improve the company's family of apps and for other technologies, oh and of course, it'll be used for Meta's metaverse.
But the thing that'll be super impactful for the community and businesses is how it'll help us communicate regardless of language barriers.
The NLLB-200 AI model can be used for chatbots or AI virtual assistants or for translating movies and videos into different languages with accurate subtitles.
The possibilities are endless, and we're excited to see what projects developers create in a future 3MDD.
