If your WhatsApp Status updates have been feeling a little too silent, that's about to change.
WhatsApp has officially rolled out its new music feature, letting users add popular music clips to their Stories-like updates. Because what's a good photo or video without the perfect background track, right?

The update is being introduced gradually over the next few weeks, so if you don't see it just yet, hang tight. Once available, you'll notice a little music note icon at the top of your screen when creating a Status. Tap it, and a whole library of songs will open up—whether you're in the mood for a trending hit, a nostalgic throwback, or just that one song that's been playing on repeat in your head. You can even choose the exact part of the song that fits your post, with a 15-second limit for photos and up to 60 seconds for videos.
If this all sounds familiar, that's because it is. Instagram and Facebook Stories have had similar music-sharing options for a while, and now WhatsApp is catching up. Meta has been working behind the scenes on this feature for months, with developers uncovering hints of its existence long before the official launch. Now, the platform is finally giving users more ways to express themselves through music.
The move is part of a broader push by Meta to integrate music across its platforms. Instagram has already seen a surge in music-based features—song lyrics in Reels, music stickers for DMs, and even the ability to add songs to your profile. And with TikTok's future in the U.S. still uncertain, Meta is looking to position itself as the go-to alternative for music-driven content. Expanding these features to WhatsApp, which is the most popular messaging app in the world and growing in the U.S., is just another step in that direction.
So, whether you're setting the mood for a dramatic selfie, sharing a concert clip, or just flexing your impeccable music taste, your WhatsApp Status updates are about to get a whole lot more interesting.
