Reboot Your Feed: Instagram's Big Update to Fix Your Algorithm

Instagram is giving its users the chance to hit the reset button on their recommendation algorithm, and honestly, it might be the fresh start we all need. Announced on Tuesday,
the platform is testing a new feature that lets you clear out your current content preferences and retrain the app's algorithm. Whether your feed is flooded with endless cooking videos or that random niche you were obsessed with months ago, this update promises a blank slate.
Here's how it works: once you reset your recommendations, Instagram treats your account like it knows absolutely nothing about you. Your Explore page, home feed, and Reels will start showing generic content until the algorithm catches on again based on what you like, save, and interact with. Think of it as a reboot for your digital vibe.
For those worried about regretting the decision, Instagram head Adam Mosseri reassures users that this isn't meant to be an everyday fix. "It's going to make your Instagram much less interesting at first," Mosseri explained in a video, "but if you don't feel good about your experience, this gives you an out." So yeah, proceed with caution.
The new feature also comes with a little housekeeping bonus: while resetting, you'll get the option to review and clean up your following list. Been stuck with accounts you no longer vibe with? Now's your chance to hit unfollow and declutter your feed.
If this feels familiar, you're not wrong. TikTok rolled out a similar reset option for its For You page last year. It's a move aimed at keeping users happy and engaged, especially those whose interests have shifted or whose feeds feel out of sync with their current tastes.
This isn't Instagram's first attempt at giving users more control over their feeds, though. Existing tools like marking posts as "Interested" or "Not Interested" and hiding content with specific keywords are still around for day-to-day adjustments. But the reset button? It's for when you're ready to burn it all down and start over.
The feature is expected to roll out globally "soon." So, if your Instagram experience feels more "meh" than magical these days, a total refresh could be just what you need.
