With all his advertisers bailing, Elon is leaning toward subscriptions to keep his social media platform afloat. For all of us who just want to continue "tweeting," it's getting harder to figure out X subscriptions and what you get for your money.
Sure, there's still (at least for now) free X, but it's a little unclear what you see in that feed or, more importantly, if anyone even sees your posts.
Then, of course, there's X Premium for those who can't live without the blue checkmark. That's what, eight bucks a month? This model promises to boost your posts, meaning they might see the light of day, and yes, you can get the blue checkmark to prove you're officially you.
But wait a second, now
X offers two new subscription plans: X Premium Plus and X Basic.
Let's start with X Basic. You won't get a blue checkmark, you won't get reduced ads, and you're still not cool enough to gain access to X's media studio. The only thing X promises with a Basic subscription, which costs 3 bucks a month, is a "small boost to replies. Sounds more like a way to get at least three dollars a month from users unwilling to part with more money.
And if you already have Premium (what used to be Twitter Blue) for 8 dollars a month, now you can double down on the money and get double the fun, or so X says.
With Premium, of course, you get that exciting blue checkmark, the ability to edit tweets, longer posts, longer video uploads, encrypted direct messages, and other silly little perks.
So what will you get with Premium Plus and 16 dollars a month?
We thought you'd never ask.
Well, X says you'll get the biggest boost available for your replies. You'll also have ads removed from your "For You" and "Following feeds." You'll also get access to X's Creator Hub, which offers a bunch of monetization and analytical tools.
That's the kind of fun double the money brings you.
Whether you're flying free and quite possibly tweeting to yourself, or Elon is finding a new way to get you to pay to play, there are plenty of X subscription plans to consider.
